Westaway back as North Devon skipper

MATT Westaway is to return to the captaincy at North Devon for the season ahead for a second turn at the helm.

Westaway (pictured, left with predecessor Matt Dart), last led the side between 2008-2009 before handing over to Mike Heddon.

Left-arm spinner Dart was appointed captain in 2012 and started 2013 in the role. He stood down midway through the season and was replaced by Rob Ayre, whose had led North Devon to the Premier title in 2007.

Ayre ruled himself out of continuing after suffering a badly broken finger in the final game last season. The injury may compromise his first-team place as a keeper-batsman.

Westaway’s number two will be Barney Huxtable, who is currently at college in South Wales.

Huxtable went through the youth ranks at Braunton, had a season with Exmouth in 2011 and joined North Devon last term
