Newton and North Devon on collision course
LATEST TABLES

THE top two both won and so it means next Sunday’s match at The Lawn, Newton Tracey where North Devon are the visitors, will determine who is to be crowned champions this season.

The pair go into the game separated by just a half a point and it is now a winner-takes-all encounter.

Newton Tracey won their final away game of the season, beating hosts Bideford by six wickets.

Mike Young top scored with 80 for Bideford in a total of 180 all out.

Jon Turner (4-34) and Rob Gear (4-44) shared the wicket taking duties.

Nick Parkin (53) and Richard Screech (44) then set up the successful run chase with Gary Chatham’s unbeaten 41 taking Newton Tracey over the line.

North Devon were also away and they too won, though in their case it was from batting first as they closed on 169-9 and then bowled hosts Sandford out for 139.

Dan Bowser led the Instow side to their total with a splendid 76 and Tom Ansell chipped in with 22.

Ryan Glass claimed 3-32 for the Creedy Park side and then hit 32.

However, only Tom Sparrow bettered that with 42 as Kasey Elliot claimed 3-21 as North Devon won to stay top.

Halberton made sure of top spot in Division Two after they maintained their record of being the only side throughout all five divisions to still be unbeaten this term.

Shebbear made them work hard for yet another Sampford Peverell victory.

John Chilcott (57) and Tom Radley (50) led the mid Devon men to 214-8.

James Starkey took 4-36 for Shebbear who were then led mighty close to an upset thanks to a stunning knock of 145 from Ollie Wickett.

The rest of the side contributed 51 runs to the cause, the final wicket falling on 196.

Radley completed a fine all-round shift for his team with 3-43.

Incorrigibles are set to claim the runners-up berth in the second tier after they won their penultimate match of the term, winning by five runs in a thrilling game at Victoria Park.

Ryan Bowden (51) led the Witheridge side to 165-7.

Dave Smale took 3-21 for the hosts who made a great fist of the run chase, coming up just five runs short! Giles Bashford top scored with 48 whilst Ryan Bowden completed a fine individual contribution with 3-21.

Beaford and Lynton and Lynmouth played their final Division Two matches and they’ll not meet next summer as Lynton and Lynmouth are going down.

Their final outing saw them lose by seven wickets after they were bowled out for just 51 with Beaford’s Paul Heard taking 5-4 from seven overs! Dan Lane then hit 19 in the home reply of 52-3.

Heathcoat II are just eight points away from being crowned Division Four champions after they beat Petrockstowe in a low scoring affair at Knightshayes.

Jim Cridland (26) and James Drew (12) were the only home batsmen into double figures in a paltry total of 77.

Brendon Harris claimed 4-8 for the visitors who were then hustled out for just 67 to lose by ten runs! James Drew (3-2) and Dan Reed (3-3) were the key wicket takers whilst only Steve Cox with 17 made any impression for Petrockstowe.

The win means Heathcoat need just eight points from their final game against Filleigh II to land the top honour.

Dominic Ford struck 88 and Phil Woods hit 58 as North Molton closed on 210-9 at North Devon III.

Rob Mann took 4-40 for the Instow side who were then bowled out for 109.

Tom Stanton (27) and Mat Knapman (26) were the only home batsmen to spend long at the crease as George Long-Howell claimed 3-2 in three overs and Rob Ayre took 3-29.
