EASTER MONDAY NORTH DEVON LEAGUE
TWO games were played on Bank Holiday Monday, both in Division Three and they saw a second successive early season win for Newton Tracey II and a first win, at the third time of asking, for Bude.
At Bratton Fleming, James Tapp (47) led the home side to 177-9. Mark Cowling took 4-14 in nine splendid overs and Kieran Jarrett claimed 3-25 for the visitors who were led to a four-wicket win by Richard Screech (59) and John Walmsley (30no).
Tapp completed a fine all-round effort for the hosts with 3-18 from nine very accurate overs.
Bude were 66 -run winners at Sandford II where a century from Alex Smeeth (101) together with knocks from Sam Hocking (76) and skipper Matt Mansbridge (50), led the visiting side to 304-06.
Jason Matten took 3-30 for the Creedy Park side and then struck a big hitting half century in the home run chase.
Matten crashed five sixes and four fours on his way to 61 and veteran Pete Whitby hit 53 but the star of the home show with the bat was 16-year old Josh Misslebrook with 66. Derek Piper claimed 4-71 for Bude.
