NDL Kalsi leads Filleigh to victory

JUST two top-flight games were played over the Bank Holiday weekend and they produced an away win for Filleigh and a home success for Hatherleigh.
Jas Kalsi led Filleigh to a seven-wicket win at Braunton where he took 3-29 and Simon Prosser claimed 3-13 as the home side were restricted to 129-9.
Only skipper Alec Hodges (42) and Gary Brooks (20) made much of an impression.
Kalsi then struck a fluent 65 and Rob Collier chipped in with 31 as Filleigh bagged their first win of the season after their opening game was lost to the weather.
Hatherleigh were 47-run winners at home to Barnstaple & Pilton who bowled their hosts out for 177 but then were bundled out themselves with only Jack Popham providing an innings of respectability, he was not out 34 at the close.
Division Two also staged a brace of games and both produced empathic home victories.
Beaford looked in trouble when their final wicket went down with just 109 on the board against visiting Victoria Park.
Paul Heard (37) and Robin Lake (26no) helped limp their side into three figures. However, that proved more than enough as Lake, making his first appearance for the team in eight years, then claimed four wickets for two runs in seven overs as Victoria Park were skittled out for 30 in 29 overs!
Mark Easterbrook claimed 3-15 and Andrew James took 3-10. Giles Bashford with nine was the highest single contribution to the Victoria Park total. James Maise made an impressive start to life at Halberton & Sampford Peverell as he guided the Division Two new boys to a 96 run win at home to Incorrigibles.
Maise thumped 120 and, with supporting knocks of 60 from Greg Maher and 40 from John Chilcott, the Mid Devon men were able to close on a commanding 256-5.
Maher then claimed four wickets in the Incorrigibles reply that saw their final wicket fall on 160.

Hatherleigh 177, Barnstaple & Pilton 130 – no other details received. Hatherleigh (20pts) bt Barnstaple and Pilton (4) by 47 runs.
Division Two:
Beaford 109 (P Heard 37, R Lake 26no), Victoria Park 30 (G Bashford 9; R Lake 4-2, A James 3-10, M Easterbrook 3-15). Beaford (20pts) bt Victoria Park (0) by 79 runs.
Halberton and Sampford Peverell 256-5 (J Maise 120, G Maher 60, J Chilcott 40), Incorrigibles 160 (G Maher 4-30). Halberton and Sampford Peverell (20pts) bt Incorrigibles (6) by 96 runs.
Dulverton, after three successive wash-outs, finally made a start to life in the Stay in Devon North Devon cricket League with a 14 run win over Nomansland.
The Division Five new boys were indebted to Lee Hooper (84) and Carl Hooper (63), the pair added 102 for the third wicket, and were the only home batsmen into double figures in a total of 184-8.
Ashley Wreford claimed 3-26 and Ed Strong bagged a brace for Nomansland who were then bowled out for 170 in 43.3 overs, Gary Say (64), Mark Anderson (29) and Wreford (27) were the principle run scorers whilst the Dulverton wickets takers were Ashley Williams (4-31), Jason Abbot (3-36) and James Howe (2-15).
Filleigh II were four-wicket winners in a low-scoring Division Four affair at Westleigh.
It was skipper Charlie Cullen who led fro the front for Filleigh as he claimed 6-17 in five overs, combing with Ravi Gill (3-25) to bundle the hosts out for 80 in 22 overs.
James Tythcott was the only home batsman to make any sort of impact with 14. Martin Collier led the run chase with 35 and it was left to the skipper (2no) and Baljit Kalsi (14no) to see Filleigh over the winning line at 81-6.
Westleigh skipper James Cory took 4-15 for his side.
