DEVON Dumplings dominated their game against visiting Glamorgan Nomads at Exeter but couldn’t finish off the 10-man Welsh side, the match ending in a tame draw.
Batting first the Dumplings made 242 for 7 before skipper Graham White declared after 42 overs, the major run makers being Abbotskerswell’s Richard Ashworth who made 84, Exeter’s John Meredith with 52 and Steve Bourke of Clyst St George with a quick-fire 50 not out as the declaration approached.
Other contributions came from Chris Kelmere (19) and Will Steward (18), while the visitors depended heavily on the left arm spin of Brad Wadlon, who finished with a creditable 6 for 76.
The Nomads struggled throughout their innings, losing wickets regularly and never getting to grips with the required scoring rate.
Wadlon also starred with the bat, making 50. But only Duncan Cooper (19) and Dale Stibbs (19 not out) offered much additional resistance as the chase was abandoned.
Exeter’s Callum Still did most of the damage with a tight spell of 12 overs yielding 4 for 24 as the innings petered out on 141 for 7 after 41 overs – a moral victory for the Dumplings.
