Otters get brake on in time

OTTERY St Mary got the brake on just in time to stop Chagford winning on the chase.

Lewis Townsend’s run of form for Ottery continued with a fine 80 in a total of 229 all out.

Townsend and Stan Tennant (43) racked up 105 for the third wicket and there was a cameo 21 not out at the end from former skipper Jody Clements.

Pick of the Chagford bowlers with three for 21 was Derek Lammonby.

Chagford didn’t have any big stands in their reply – in fact their best partnership was the last one of 46 between Duncan Manners-Chapman (26) and Jacob Griffiths.

Paul Penberthy (20) and in particular Jonathan Wright (42) got on with it and Ottery were glad to see the back of Wright, who was caught out at long-on.

Rob Crabb (4-51) and Will Harrison (3-21) were the leading Ottery wicket takers.

Ottery make the short trip to Clyst Hydon this week.
