Overton goes ballistic at Sidmouth

NORTH Devon's Jamie Overton turned in a devastating display of hitting as his side raced to a four-wicket win at Sidmouth.

The new Premier champions had posted 244 all in 47 of their 50 overs - Peter Randerson top scoring with 52.

North Devon then subsided to 65 for four in reply by the 13th over and looked anything but likely winners at that stage.

Then along came Somerset staffer Overton with the sort of innings that takes your breath away!

Overton (left) clubbed 142 not out off just 55 balls - that's not a misprint - smashing 13 fours and 12 sixes. Of the 55 balls he faced 14 were dots, meaning he made 31 scoring shots, 25 of which were boundaries.

There was a stand of 90 for the fifth wicket with Tom Allin spread across eight overs, which was nothing compared to the carnage to come.

After Jack Pudney came and went quickly, Overton and skipper Matt Westaway won the game at breakneck speed.

Their stand of exactly 80 was compiled in a mere 6.4 overs. Overton went from 77 to 142 during the partnership, of which Westaway contributed four!

Some of Sidmouth’s bowlers were last seen heading for counseling after examining their figures.

Liam Lewis went for 27 in two overs, Charlie Miles 39 in four and the usually miserly Will Murray 46 in five and a bit.

Even Dan Babula, the Premier Division’s leading wicket taker didn’t escape the lash as he disappeared for 79 in his nine overs.
