FARM & COTTAGE HOLIDAYS NORTH DEVON LEAGUE – WEEK TWO
Division One
BRAUNTON got their Division One campaign off to a flying start against a ten man Sandford who finished the game with nine men owing to an unfortunate injury to Matt Theedom in the first half hour of action.
The game at Creedy Park witnessed an outstanding opening partnership between (pictured) Andrew Paddison (127) and Harry Booker (65). The pair put on 206 for the opening wicket enabling the visitors to close on an impressive 247-4.
The hosts, with just eight wickets to play with, were bundled out for 119 with Walid Iqbal claiming three wickets and both John Baglow and 15-year old Dan Crocombe, bagging braces.
Braunton were brought down to earth 24 hours later when beaten at home by Bideford who chased down a 204 run target to win with seven wickets still standing. Barney Huxtable (58) and Dave Cresswell (42) scored the bulk of the home runs as James Carden and Ian Hayter both bagged braces. The run chase was led superbly by Alan Withecombe who was unbeaten on 116 when the win was confirmed. Under-13 player Callum Mitchum took a wicket for the home side.
Filleigh were edged past the winning line by last pair Gary Henry and John Hickman as they claimed a single wicket win at the expense of visiting Sandford. Tom Sparrow (46) led the visitors to 166 with John Hickman (3-22) and Jamie Palmer (2-2) the principle wicket takers. Simon Prideaux then top scored with 44 as Simon Ashplant (3-48) and Ryan Glass (2-13 in eight overs), claimed the wickets.
Division Two
SHOBROOKE Park were bundled out in 19.4 overs for a meagre 65 at Lynton & Lynmouth who wasted no time in knocking the runs off for the loss of three wickets. Roger Jones (16) was the only visiting batsmen to make any sort of progress as Connor Constable sent down 3.4 overs and took six wickets for just twelve runs. Lawrence May (22) set the run chase on the way and it was seen to a winning conclusion by Jack Osmond (14no) and Simon Jennings (6no).
Division Three
HOLSWORTHY were five wicket winners at Bideford II where they restricted the home side to 215-8 and the knocked the runs off with five wickets to spare. John Weekes (62) and Alex Savage (23) were the principle scorers as Colin Walter claimed 3-36 for Holsworthy who were led to victory by Dave Gerry (69) and Ryan Walter (51). Tom Farnell (3-45) was the main wicket taker for the hosts.
Division Four
NORTH Devon III got off to a flying start with a double dose of victories beating Lynton & Lynmouth II on Saturday and winning at Barnstaple & Pilton II the following day. Dan Pickard (170no) and Rob Hearn (116no) put the visiting bowlers to the sword as North Devon registered a whopping 340-1 and then 14-year old Ross Clayton claimed his first ever five wicket haul in senior cricket as the visitors were bowled out for 160.
The next day young Clayton bagged a brace as did John Wainwright as hosts Barum were restricted to 164-7, replying to the Instow men’s score of 176-8. Barum skipper Matt Clarke top scored with an unbeaten 49 whilst Mark Clayton hit 60 in the North Devon innings. Nigel Rowe, Danny O’Donovan and Chris Newton, each took a couple of wickets for Barum.
