Penn takes over Topsham captaincy

TOPSHAM St James will have a new skipper for the season ahead in the E Division.

Treleaven has handed over the 1st XI captaincy after four years to Charlie Penn, but will continue to play for the club.

The 2nd XI is under the captaincy of Brian Jeary and the Ladies will be managed by Heather Peters, with Anne Le Brocq captaining the team on match days.

The £450.000 rebuilding of the clubhouse is complete and the players, as well as the parents of the 140-odd Colts, are looking forward to using this much-improved facility.

Topsham is to benefit from the support of several sponsors, namely Wilkinson Grant and Co Ltd, Sidney Pratt Builders Ltd, EIC (Exeter) Ltd, Southernhay Dental Practice Ltd, County Grounds Maintenance Ltd and Projexe Engineering Ltd.

Registration evening is Friday, 25 April when all existing and new players - adult and colts, men and ladies - are encouraged to go along to Bonfire Field between 5.30pm and 8pm.

This will provide an opportunity for people to meet the committee, coaches and other players/parents/children.

The first training sessions will take place the following week: Wednesday for ladies, Thursday for men and Fridays for colts.

As in past years, Paul Diamond will be leading the many volunteer coaches at the Friday junior sessions, but for the first time the adults are also to receive coaching from Trevor Griffin on Thursday evenings.
