SHOBROOKE Park’s Justin Dollow amassed a rapid 161 off 104 balls as he took advantage of a weak Platypods attack and a good pitch and fast outfield at Exeter’s County Ground.
The Dumplings beat the touring Platypods, based on Cranleigh School masters, by 185 runs – a huge margin in a 40 overs game.
It didn’t start well for the Dumplings as they lost their first two wickets, including that of Gareth Tidball, for only nine runs.
However, a rapid partnership of 130 between Dollow and Exeter’s Johnny Meredith (47) gave the initiative to the Dumplings and the arrival of Chris Kelmere quickened the pace even more.
Dollow and Kelmere put on a massive 199 stand in exactly one hour’s batting. Kelmere’s hundred came off just 55 balls and he finished on 104 not out, the Dumplings ending their 40 overs on 345 for four.
In reply the Platypods quickly fell behind the huge asking rate and also lost wickets regularly, eventually to be bowled out for 160 in 31 overs.
Dumplings debutants Owen Penrice with 4 for 71 and Paul Berman with 3 for 39 were the main wicket takers .
