PLYMOUTH and Sidmouth clash at Mount Wise tomorrow in the Premier Division match of the day.
Neither side has lost a game so far and both are hard on the heels of Exmouth at the top of the table.
Plymouth’s record against Sidmouth has been good in recent seasons, although the city side have not managed to finish ahead of them either.
Matt Hooper, the Plymouth captain, can’t wait for the game to get under way.
“We are really looking forward to the Sidmouth match - this is the one we have been waiting for without getting ahead of ourselves.
It is a great opportunity to see how good we really are, we have scraped through a few matches this season so it be interesting to see where we sit.
We have turned them over a few times in recent years so we know we are in for a tough match but one we can win.
“We are really excited to see whether we have what it takes to mix it with the best in this league so we just can't wait for Saturday to come round.”
Sidmouth skipper Will Murray knows his men have had a slip or two against Plymouth, but isn’t dwelling on it.
“Plymouth are going well and have some players like Dave Burke in top form,” said Murray.
“We have had close games with Plymouth and this will be no different.
“The important thing for us is to keep in touch with the top of the table.”
Pacer Hal Kerton is still injured, but apart from that Plymouth are at full strength.
Sidmouth name the same side that beat Exeter last time out. Adam Dibble remains on the injured list so Matt Cooke continues in the side.
BOVEY Tracey will hope to put some more distance between themselves and the drop zone when they entertain Cornwood.
Bovey defeated Heathcoat in a low-scoring affair last time out to avoid being dragged into the relegation mix.
Cornwood were not so lucky – their defeat by Plymouth dropped them to second from bottom.
Bovey skipper Andy Fairbairn has a healthy respect for Cornwood and is reading little into their league position given his own side’s patchy form.
“We are looking to build on last week's win and get a run going,” said Fairbairn.
“Winning becomes a habit and we need to work very hard, which we are doing, to try and make that happen.
“You only need to look at our bonus points to see that our batting has been letting us down this year.
“I'm confident that with the talent in our team it will come right sooner rather than later.
Three of the five games we have played this year have effectively been won by an individual performing superbly on the day.
“I will be encouraging my players to try and be that person each week who puts their hand up and wins us the game.
Cornwood are a good club who do things the right way and we look forward to playing them.
“I have worked with a couple of their younger players in the past - Ryan Rickard and Matt Skeemer - and am looking to see how much they have developed since last year.”
Ben Ayres and Ryan Bougourd come back in for Dan Bishop and Sam Wyatt-Haines.
Cornwood skipper Jason Hall is looking to bounce back from last week’s defeat against Plymouth and draw on the positives from that game.
Hall keeps faith with the same team as last week, although there are some doubts over the fitness of Craig Harris, which may enforce a late change.
“Bovey recorded a win last week, but have been struggling to find consistency themselves so we are expecting a well-matched contest,” said Hall.
EXETER skipper Miles Lenygon is wrestling with injury issues ahead of the trip to leaders Exmouth.
Lenygon isn’t saying who is missing and it leaving it late to name replacements.
As a former Exmouth player himself Lenygon knows how strong they are and the size of the challenge ahead.
“Exmouth are the best team in the league,” said Lenygon.
“Each week one of their batters has played a match-winning knock and with a bowling attack which has the best seamer (Anning) and spinner (Chapple) in the league it means Saturday will be an exciting challenge.
“I feel we've had a slight fear of failure when batting this season as this squad has high expectations.
“We've got some big players missing but I expect us to go there and play without fear and give it a really good go.”
Exmouth captain Richard Baggs said he had some sympathy for Lenygon.
“Exeter are a good side, but seem to have a different team every week which is never easy for the captain,” said Baggs.
“Exeter do have good players and I expect a very tough game.”
Matt Webb returns for Ian Bishop in a side that will be without pacer Ollie Dawe, who has had a wrist operation during the week.
TORQUAY have to buck their ideas up in a hurry for the seafront date with Sandford this Saturday.
Sandford’s win over North Devon last time out means Torquay replaced them bottom of the table following their 164-run drubbing by Exmouth.
Losing to Sandford really will crank the pressure up on Torquay in the fight for survival their season is fast turning into.
Torquay skipper Justin Yau offered no excuses on behalf of his side after the loss to Exmouth last time out, saying: “We were very poor in all areas.
“We didn't set the tempo up top and bowled really poorly which set the tone for the game.
“Then we didn't take responsibility when we batted.”
Sandford moved out of the bottom two last Saturday by beating North Devon, which skipper Jamie Palmer hopes has generated some go-forward.
“I'm looking for us to take some momentum into Saturday from the North Devon game,” said Palmer.
“We will need to play to the same intensity we managed last week and hopefully that will give us a very important victory.
“Torquay have proven performers at this level so we shouldn't read too much into where they are in the league, I'm expecting a tight game.”
ELSEWHERE in the Premier Division, North Devon are at home to Heathcoat.
