Exmouth defeated first time out

EXMOUTH got just the start they didn't want to their defence of the Premier title -  a four-wicket defeat by newly promoted Heathcoat.

David Lye top scored with 40 for Exmouth, and there were chip ins from Trevor Anning (20) and Gary Chappell (29) to a total of 167 all out.

Youngster Jamie Drew took the bowling honours with three for 22 while Jack Menheneott and Matt Hague had two wickets each.

Trevor Anning and Chappell made Heathcoat work for the runs and an anchorman knock of 56 off 122 balls from opener Dylan Penberthy proved crucial.

Qassim Adams (39) helped the score along with Jason Parr and Toby Lochead the not-out batters when Heathcoat went over the line.

Sidmouth scraped home by two wickets at Bovey Tracey, were 157 to win proved a struggle.

Sam Wyatt-Haines top scored no 65 for Bovey, who were held to 156 for seven. Charlie Miles had three for 26.

Josh Bess made 33 for Sidmouth, but the key knock came from Will Sobczak, who was in 125 minutes for his 40 not out.

Torquay came badly unstuck at Plymouth where Dave Burke sent them reeling to a 67-run defeat.

Steve Luffman top scored on 30 for the city side, who were all out for 151 in the last of their 50 overs.

Mitchell Pugh and Nick Watkin were hard to get away and Somerset's Max Waller was almost unplayable, taking four for 11 in 10 overs.

Burke (5-14) then blew away the Torquay top order with some assistance from Sam Stein (3-22) and Rob Bennett (1-10) as the visitors slumped to 31 for seven.

Tail-enders Ben Francis (21) and Jack Richardson (13) delayed the inevitable before Torquay were all out for 84.

Matt Skeemer showed what an exciting prospect he's going to be with a top score of  54 for Cornwood in their 123-run win over Sandford.

Skeemer, 17, and Chris Parker (42) were the main contributors to a total of 195 all out.

Sandford subsided to 72 all out in reply - Matt Butterworth taking four for 14 to speed them on their way.

Max Curtis showed that a winter in Australia had honed his game with a maiden and unbeaten Premier ton in North Devon's 20-run win over Exeter.

Curtis and Jason Hayes (38) took North Devon from 70 for four to 196 for six in a final tally  of 230 for six.

England u17 prospect Ben Green claimed four or 40 for Exeter.

Exeter were on course at 142 for four when opener Andy Curtis was run-out backing up, having been warned twice he was taking a risk.

Tom Allin was the pick of the bowlers with four for 40 as Exeter were limited to 210 for nine in reply.
