Premier 2nd XI: Hatherleigh waylaid by Devon duo

PREMIER 2nd XI

HATHERLEIGH 2nd XI ran into former Devon players Keith Donohue and Jeremy Williams when they faced Plympton – with predictable consequences!

The pair, both on the comeback trail after time out of the game, helped Plympton post 204 for seven.

Williams made 45 and Donohue an unbeaten 75 after Plympton had dealt with Sean Leatheran (2-37) and Ross Cherrington (2-48).

Sean Forrester (32) top scored for Hatherleigh, who were bowled out for 105 in reply.

Having been 48 without loss, Hatherleigh dipped to 51 for four then 83 for five and had no way back.

Jamie Pfeiffer (3-9) wrapped things up for Plympton.

Dan Pickard slammed a 143 for North Devon 2nd XI as they stacked up 276 for three against Cornwood.

Pickard hit 25 fours from 127 balls faced and shared in a stand of 165 for the third wicket with Warren Miller (67). None of Cownood’s bowlers fared too well with Will Caulfield (1-94) taking the most punishment.

Cornwood got to 120 for five – Ben Warren making 57 – then faded away to 175 all out with six overs to go.

Peter Blyth with six for 27 put the skids under Cornwood, aided and abetted by Paul Heard (2-23).

EXETER remain hard on the heels of Plymouth at the top of the table following a 64-run win over Paignton.

Title chasing Exeter recovered from 52 for four to make 193 all out, thanks largely to a stand of 73 between John Hay (30) and Matt Williamson (30), Steve Easterbrook helped things along with 31.

Mike Meech (4-40) was in the wickets again – as were Connor Ashworth (3-52) and Ben Luck (2-33).

Paignton ran into early problems against Pete Hensor (3-17) and Adam Smith (3-65) as they slipped to 24 for three.

Skipper Tim Ward made 42 and Callum Stanley 24 as Paignton recovered after a fashion to 80 for six.

Spinner Williamson (2-32) applied the last rites as Paignton were bowled out for 129.

SIDMOUTH’S chances of retaining the Premier title suffered a serious setback when they went down by 100 runs to leaders Plymouth.

The game was a double pointer for Sidmouth as a chance to eat into the 23-point gap between the side.

Losing means Sidmouth are down to fifth and 39 points behind the pretenders to their throne.

Charlie Dibble (5-56) made life hard for Plymouth’s batters at one end, but the bowling wasn’t as tight at the other end.

Lanky South African Kevin Davies smashed 55 not out of 31 balls with six sixes and two fours in a stand of 59 with John Vercoe that took Plymouth towards their total of 197 for six. Vercoe made four!

Ben Fererro (39) and George Stephenson (50) were responsible for an earlier stand of 61.

The Sidmouth batting was a sorry affair, highlighted by the top score being 26 extras, Fionn Wardrop (21) had the best off the bat.

From an edgy 60 for five Sidmouth subsided to 97 all out with Harry Kandampully and Rob McPherson taking three wickets each for Plymouth.

BUDLEIGH Salterton were given a run for their money before finally overcoming a depleted Bovey Tracey side by 38 runs.

Bovey had U14 seamers Jack Thomas and Ben Roberts opening the bowling on the basis if you pick youngsters it is best to get the involved.

Roberts took four for 32 for the best bowling figures of the day on either side.

Matt Plowman made 69 and Lloyd White 46 in Budleigh’s total of 227 alll out.

Bovey had former Devon keeper-batter Phil Arnold in their line up and he was joint top scorer on 32 with Jamie Gray.

From 134 for five Bovey went into a steady decline with Plowman taking three for 32 as the home side were bowled out for 189.
