HEATHCOAT have signed South African all-rounder Jean Rossouw to boost their prospects of a prompt return to Premier cricket this summer.
Rossow, 22, bats and bowls leg-spin, skills which brought him to the attention of the Easterns management in 2010-11.
First Class cricket didn’t work out for the young man from the Limpopo region of South Africa and he was released after two three-day games and five-one-day appearances.
Among his three First Class wickets was that of Ryan Canning, the former Exmouth keeper batter (2004, 2006-07), who was playing for Eastern Province.
Heathcoat seem to be awash with leg-spinners as they have already have Jack Menheneott on board, and have signed England-qualified Aussie Mitch Baker as well.
Baker, who also bats, comes from the same Sydney club (Bankstown) as departed captain Chris Small.
Small would have liked a third season at Knightshayes, but can no longer get the five months off work needed.
Heathcoat’s new captain – their third in as many seasons – is Sam Smith.
