SANDFORD go to Cornwood for their Premier Division opener looking to put down a marker for the season ahead.
The Creedy Park side were promoted as runners-up to Heathcoat having come down with the same team the year before.
Cornwood finished closer to the bottom than the top last season, but have recruited record-breaking batsman Jackson Thompson from Bradninch.
Thompson’s double century against Budleigh last season was the first in the Premier Division since it was created in 1972.
“I appreciate Cornwood have strengthened since last season, but so have we,” said new skipper Jamie Palmer.
“It is a game we will be looking to win,.”
Sandford have lost promotion-winning captain and spin bowler Simon Ashplant and start the season without former Devon pair Matt Theedom and Adrian Small.
Batter Small hopes to be over a knee injury by late May, He didn’t play last season at all.
New skipper Palmer has lost Neil Bettis to North Devon and Dave Dredge, who has left the area.
Incoming are batsman Tom Mithcham, who was with Braunton, and ex-Barnstaple and Braunton batter Laurence May.
And Palmer has some South African firepower in the shape of all-rounder Luandre Van Wyk.
