NEW Sandford skipper Simon Ashplant is bullish going into the new season as the Creedy Park club look to pick themselves up following relegation last year.
Ashplant, who has replaced Matt Theedom at the helm, is targeting an immediate return to the top flight.
Lessons were learned from last season’s disappointing campaign – Sandford finshed rock bottom – and Ashplant is confident they will be put into practice.
“We sometimes struggled to apply ourselves in tight games and to bounce back we have to put that right,” said Ashplant.
“With some new players on board and better availability, we have a good batting line-up and look strong in our bowling.”
Peter Steer has rejoined after a stint with Shobrooke Park and George Biggs has moved over from Ottery, where he was the leading run scorer in 2012 with 322.
From further a field comes South African seamer Linton Terblanche, who played for Border as a youngster and has since appeared for Northerns in First Class, List A and Twenty20 cricket.
Last season the 22 year oldopened the bowling for Cutthorpe in the Derbyshire County League.
Missing at the start of the season is veteran batsman Adrian Small, who has a knee injury.
Former Devon left-hander Neil Bettis won’t be playing at all the season as he is taking a summer off having recently become a father.
Sandford hope to see a bit more of seamer Jamie Palmer this summer.
Work commitments got in the way for the club’s leading wicket taker in the 2011 promotion-winning campaign.
