South Dartmoor Girls come so close!
South Dartmoor U13 Girls came so close to winning the Chance to Compete National Final at Wormsley last week, losing by 3 runs in the deciding game.

The format was best of 3 games with 8 overs per side. South Dartmoor lost the first game but bounced back in the second winning by 2 runs. This was the first ever defeat for their opponents who are also the Lady Taverners Indoor National Champions. The final game was played in the darkening gloom with it still raining, and the surface and the ball incredibly wet. Both teams did incredibly well to play such good games in the conditions. Both teams matched each other throughout, with the game swinging from one team to the other. It eventually came down to South Dartmoor needing 4 to win off the last ball but they could only muster a single. A cracking effort.

A great day was had by all. The girls were able to watch the final day of the women's Ashes Test, have a Q and A with some of the players on both teams and also have the England and Australian players watch their games. They also had England Captain Charlotte Edwards commentating on their game. Definitely a day to remember.

Coaches Becky Mason and Julie Ingham-Hill couldn't have been prouder of their girls; "they have done brilliantly to not only get this far but to also compete against a really strong team who hadn't lost a game until today. They have been really lucky to watch the last day of the Ashes today to see players like Charlotte (Edwards) who has been into school and worked with them. Hopefully it will give them something to aspire to".

The team who were also 1 game away from making the indoor National Finals earlier in the year are testament to the hard work and dedication that Becky Mason and Julie Ingham-Hill put in. Not only do they have a very successful team but they also have 30-40 girls at school who regularly come to cricket sessions every week.
