Abbotskerswell captain Toby Codd shows off the South Devon League Cup surrounded by happy team-mates
ABBOTSKERSWELL send Chudleigh tumbling to a 121-run defeat in the final of the South Devon League Cup.
Chudleigh, who has already won the First Division title, were going for the double against the team who topped Division Three North East this season.
Abbots’ total of 213 for eight in 40 overs – Charlie Garratt top scoring on 90 – looked within range for Chudleigh if Sachintha Galhenage could repeat his semi-final show.
Galhenage rapped 146 off 79 balls for Chudleigh as they eased past South Plymouth by 74 runs en route to the final
Abbots’ bowling attack was made of sterner stuff and with Garratt (2-13) and Hugo Whitlock (2-10) among the wickets early Chudleigh were an unimpressive 31 for four in reply.
Galhenage did make 49, but no one else made a double-figure score as Chudleigh subsided to 92 all out.
Tom Andrew (3-7) dispatched Galhenage in is first over and in tandem with Matt Beasant (2-28) knocked over the last five wickets for 10 runs.
Earlier, Abbots’ front five had done a pretty good job of keeping the Chudleigh bowlers at bay.
Opener Garratt put on 40 with Toby Codd and 44 with Charlie Hill (28) as Abbots reached 106 for three.
By the time Garratt was fifth out on 192, he had added 65 more with Andrew (23) as well.
Best of the Chudleigh bowlers with four for 23 off seven overs was spinner Jack Vittles.
