Powell drafted into Sidmouth 1st XI

SIDMOUTH have called up Dan Powell for tomorrow’s meeting with Cornwood.
Powell, who starred with the bat and behind the stumps for Devon U17s last season, comes in for the unavailable Zak Bess.
Otherwise it is as you were, although skipper Will Murray will be hoping it’s less of a struggle than the two-wicket win over Bovey Tracey.
Bovey were held to 156 for seven in 50 overs – far more than they looked like getting when they were 64 for four with Matt Golding just out for 24 to Charlie Miles (3-26).

And with South African newcomer Nathan Roberts making a brisk 17 at the end, Bovey had a total to defend.
Sidmouth looked in good shape at 50 for none – Josh Bess making 33 – but 61 or four three overs later was a different story.
Sam Hickenbottom (2-21) and Ryan Bougourd (2-12) made the breakthroughs for Bovey.
Will Sobczak, fresh from an outing with Somerset 2^nd XI, got his head down to make 40 not out in five minutes more than two hours.
Peter Bradley (3-32) kept the pressure on the Sidmouth middle order, but with Sobczak at one end and help from Luke Bess (16), Zak Bess (11) and Scott Barlow (14), Sidmouth got there with two overs to go.
“Bovey were 40 for three after 25 overs and we were hoping to keep them to around 120,” said Murray.
“You never know what to expect this time of the season so the fewer you have to chase the better.
“Bovey did well to get 156, although perhaps we let the get a few more than they should have.
“We were cracking along until our mini-collapse, and that made things a bit harder for us than they should have been.
“Will batted sensibly to earn us the win – and with Exmouth losing as well it was a good day all round for us.”
