Bradley brings in special guests to face Somerset

BOVEY Tracey have invited some special guests to play in Tuesday night’s T20 game against Somerset on the Recreation Ground (4pm).
The game is being played as part of Somerset star Arul Suppiah’s benefit year and was arranged at short notice when Dorset pulled out of a similar game at Sherborne School.
Suppiah is well known in Devon having played for Exmouth and Seaton while studying for a business management degree at the University of Exeter.
He also played Minor Counties cricket for Devon and showed his future potential by striking 240 against Dorset at Bournemouth in 2005.
Ten more runs would have given the Kuala Lumpur-born all-rounder a new county run record.
Former Somerset fast bowler Stefan Jones (left), an old team-mate of Suppiah’s, is making a guest appearance for Bovey, where he was briefly the match-day professional during the 2009 season.
Jones retired from the First Class game in 2011 and, after a season playing for Dorset and Bridgwater in league cricket, has joined Devon League side Heathcoat this term.
Jones is thought to be the last cricketer to have also played First Class rugby at the same time.
He was a professional with Bristol, Exeter and Moseley before plumping for full-time cricket.
Also included is former England Women’s international Rosalie Birch, a bowling all-rounder who featured in seven tests, 37 one-day internationals and four T20 games.
Birch (below), who will be playing men’s cricket for Bovey Tracey this year, was formerly with Sussex before moving to Devon to live and work.
Adam Leach, who plays for the England Disability XI, is the third guest in the side.
Leach, an off-spinner, played able-bodied cricket for Oxford 1st XI before moving the Devon.
The final guest in the team is Exeter Chiefs rugby player Jack Yeandle – a mad-keen cricket follower whose opportunities to play have been limited by his rugby commitments.
The rest of the team will comprise Bovey Tracey regulars – including Devon trio Chris Bradley, Peter Bradley and Ryan Bougourd.
“We are trying to make the game a bit more appealing by bringing in a couple of guests,” said Bovey captain Peter Bradley.
“Steffan used to play for us and knows the Somerset lads well and we thought it would be a good idea to have a bit of his firepower.
“Rosalie is an international-standard player who will relish the chance to play in a game like this.
She is registered for us in the Devon League this year.
“You can say the same about Adam, who is also registered to play for us this year.
Jack Yeandle is a friend of mine who loves his cricket.
You never know he could become like Steffan and play both sports at a good level?”
Somerset will be bringing some of their star names down to Bovey for the game, including England one-day star Craig Kieswetter.
Former England opener and Ashes winner Marcus Trescothick is pencilled into the side as well.
