DEVON’S final pre-season friendly against Somerset 2nd XI has been switched from Exmouth to Bovey Tracey at short notice. The Maer Ground is badly waterlogged with little prospect of drying out by Sunday.
“We are extremely grateful to the Bovey Tracey club for taking this fixture at such short notice,” said Devon’s chief executive Neil Gamble.
The 50-over match will start as planned at 12.30pm.
Somerset have named some familiar faces in their 2nd XI for the match.
Fast bowler Adam Dibble was with Sidmouth before he joined the pro-ranks and played for Devon as well.
Lewis Gregory used to open the batting for Plympton and graduated from the Devon youth ranks to captain England U19s and play for Somerset
Devon Premier Division players got used to seeing leg-spinning all-rounder Max Waller last season as he was turning out for Torquay on Saturday afternoons.
Also in the Somerset side is Tavistock’s fast-bowling all-rounder Ollie Sale, who attracted Somerset’s attention last year while on Devon’s high-performance youth programme.
Sale is taking part in Somerset Academy sessions this season, but remains eligible for Devon.
Devon are always on the lookout for quick-bowling talent so director of cricket Keith Donohue will be particularly keen to see Sale in action.
