TORQUAY United manager Chris Hargreaves will be the guest of honour when the new bar and function room at South Devon CC is officially re-opened on Thursday night.
South Devon are based at the Newton Abbot Recreational Trust and share the facility with Newton Spurs FC and the Newton Abbot Squash and Tennis Club.
The bar hasn’t had more than minor decorations carried out for 25 years – so a full facelift was long overdue.
The function room, which is hired by numerous clubs and societies as well as being available for parties, was in need of updating. It function room now has its own bar counter, saving users from having to queue up at a serving hatch.
The main lounge has been remodelled and a new bar and shelving installed. The cost of the work was nearly £50,000.
An additional £21,000 has been spent resurfacing the 60-space car park.
The other guest of honour at the re-opening Mike Hocking, the mayor of Newton Abbot.
The bar will be open as usual from 6pm with the official reopening due to take place at around half past seven.
