The start of the 2014 Wollen Michelmore South Devon Youth Cricket League has been disrupted by the inclement weather, but things are now starting to slowly fall into place with more fixtures being played.
The Under 11s division has seen more action than most and it is Kingsbridge who are the early pace setters, thanks in part to their diligence in already having fulfilled five fixtures. However there are plenty of other teams in with a shout in the division, including Torquay, Paignton and Bovey Tracey who are all unbeaten but having played fewer games.
It is a similar story in the Under 10s division where Ipplepen lead the way having played 3 games, but Shaldon and Bovey are close behind with 2 wins out of 2 apiece. The ‘Pens also head the early stages of the Under 12s Division and may fancy their chances of staying there all season with a very strong team in that age group.
Torquay have been one of the driving forces in developing girls cricket and it is no surprise to see them leading the Girls Under 13s division with 2 wins, whilst in the Under 14 division Bovey lead the way although Kingsbridge and Ipplepen will both fancy their chances of knocking the reigning champions from their perch.
South Devon head the pack in the early stages of an Under 15s league which has not really yet got going, whilst Chagford have their noses in front in the newly formed Under 10 softball league.
The Under 13 Division attracted the largest entry and was therefore split into 2 divisions. The ‘A’ division should be the hottest contest in the whole league with all of the 6 teams capable of beating each other on any given day. The same could be said about the B division, where Chudleigh, Shaldon and South Devon are all unbeaten in the early stages.
