HATHERLEIGH skipper Mark Lake described the 176-run derby win as close to a ‘complete performance’/
Danny Forrester hit a ton, and there were half-centuries for Cark Schwarz and veteran Andy Bennett, as Hatherleigh amassed 267 for six.
Bideford were hustled out for 91 in reply – Sean Letheren taking five wickets.
It was just the response Lake was looking for after the previous week’s defeat by Sandford – the first for seven games.
Lake said there was plenty of credit to share around.
“We set a platform with the bat then cashed in on the last 15 overs, scoring nearly 150.
Danny Forrester batted superbly and allowed Carl and Andy Bennett to attack.
Then Sean Letheren ripped into their top order and from then they were never in the game.
“We know bigger tests lie ahead but it was a good performance can't ask for anymore.”
Hatherleigh were 81 for three at 22 overs with Forrester on 40.
A stand of 114 between Forrester and Schwarz (62) upped the tempo, but the real fireworks were yet to come.
Bennett came in at 200 for five and plundered 50 not out off 24 balls with five sixes and three fours.
Forrester was dismissed one ball before the end of the 50 overs. He faced 150 balls and hit 11 fours and two sixes.
The Bideford bowling was nothing to write home about, although Alex Hannam and Fred King only went for around three an over, which the rest could only aspire too!
Letheren (5-16) and Rob Fishleigh (3-27) gutted Bideford by taking seven wickets for 14 runs as they collapsed from 24 for none to 38 for seven.
Ian Hayter (25) and Josh Atkinson (16) delayed the inevitable with a stand of 36 for the ninth wicket, but Chris Jelley and Schwarz took a wicket each to kill of Bideford.
Bideford are one off the bottom of the A Division and need a win sooner rather than later.
Skipper James Ford said the team have to adapt quickly to the standards in their new surroundings following promotion.
“At the moment teams are showing us how to play in this division,” said Ford.
“Dropped catches and an inability to stick around with the bat are costing us dearly.
“Hatherleigh were a better team by a long way on the day.
“We will knuckle down and I am sure the right results will come.”
