Theedom picked for England 060s
SANDFORD’S Chris Theedom is counting down the days to his England debut… at the ripe old age of 62.

Theedom, who plays for Sandford, has been picked for the England O60s team to face Australia at Stroud later this month.

Selection for the team is strictly performance related. Theedom is the leading run scorer in the number-three slot in the Spitfire O60s’ Championship this season, which is why he was picked.

Club-mate Stuart Lott, who toured Australia with England last winter, is also in the side.

As fellow Sandford player Bob Eames also toured Australia, Sandford can boast three O60s internationals. Eames hasn’t made the team for the game at Stroud though.

Having three England players from the same club side is still quite and achievement – and Theedom believes Sandford’s selection policy is one of the reasons.

“We all play on Sunday’s in the North Devon League and that’s a pretty good standard,” said Theedom.

“Sandford have always encouraged us to keep playing that way and thanks to regular games we stay in good cricket condition.’

Theedom was seriously ill this time last year with cancer, but has made a complete recovery.

To be selected for England is the icing on the cake.

“Everyone wants to play for their country no matter how old they are,” said Theedom.

“This time last year I feared I might never play cricket again so to get a chance like this is fantastic.”

Theedom, who works as an accountant, is a one-club man through and through. He joined Sandford as a 16 year old having been introduced to cricket while at Shelley School in nearby Crediton.
