NEW Thorverton captain James Hope isn’t shy about putting his cards on the table for the season ahead.
Thors finished sixth out of ten last season but had more games rained off than any other side, which harmed their promotion chances.
Hope, who has replaced the work-committed Ali Fury as captain, feels Thors are in the right place at the start of the season to mount a serious promotion challenge.
“We have not lost anyone and with three new arrivals look a bit stronger,” said Hope.
“The feeling around the club is very positive and the aim is to push for promotion.
“With the young side that we have there is an element of take each game as it comes.
“But the new win-lose format will suit us and we are excited about the season ahead.”
Thors have recruited seam bowler Russ Hilton from Tiverton & Bickleigh as well as much-travelled early-order batsman Graham White, who was with Exeter last season.
The overseas assistance comes from New Zealander Luke Boyadjian, a leg-spinner who has looked good in the nets.
Thorverton’s season opens with a trip to South Devon, who were relegated back into the B Division last season after one winless year in the next flight up.
