DEVON DUMPLINGS v FROGS
BYRON Kennedy and former Heathcoat skipper Andy Giles both cracked hundreds as the Devon Dumplings drew their final game of the season against traditional opponents The Frogs at Exeter's County Ground.
The Dumplings made rapid pre-lunch progress through Kennedy and Giles. The interval arrived after 32 overs with the score already at 201 without loss.
Abbotskerswell's Kennedy was first out for a brilliant 146 with the total at 247, then Giles pushed on to reach his own hundred, finishing with 114 not out at the declaration total of 318 for two. Richard Ashworth was the other batsman with 25.
Despite taking a wicket in the first over, the 10-man Dumplings found bowling hard work as the Frogs replied with an eventual 248 for seven.
There were two expensive wickets each for Sam Stein, Ben Robbins and Arron Hearn. Six of the Frogs' batters made more than 20, with Jamie Bill top scoring with 68. No-one dominated sufficiently to challenge the stiff target.
John Meredith took three excellent catches, while, consistent with the ups and downs of cricket, grassing three easier ones.
So a good season for the Dumplings ended in an eventual stalemate in their favour on Exeter's excellent track and fast outfield.
Devon Dumplings 318-2 declared (B Kennedy 146, A Giles 114 not out, R Ashworth 28), The Frogs 248-7 (J Bill 68). Match drawn.
