On an extremely breezy and chilly day at Plymouth College Devon met Hampshire for their first County Championship Match. Having won the toss, Hampshire elected to bat. Though Devon took early wickets and seemed to be a encouraging position with Hampshire on just 39-2 in the eighth over. It was Ella Chandler (32) and Alice Monaghan (39) however that steadied the Hampshire's innings and even the sparkling bowling from Sophie Florides (5-0-13-3),it was not enough to be Devon's day. Hampshire ended on 211-7.
The unfortunate excessive wides bowled by Devon, did not put the Devon girls in a very good position when they came into bat with a good total to chase, they were to have to bat really well. But Hampshire also took early wickets and Devon were struggling having lost four wickets in just twelve overs. Opener Daisy Meadowcroft continued to bat valiantly for 28 overs for her 41 as did Rose Ball coming in at 8 (21no); however wickets fell too quickly at the end at the hands of Georgia Valentine (2.4-0-13-4) and Devon were bowled out for 138, Hampshire winning by 73 runs.
