On July 22nd, Devon played Buckinghamshire on a wicket that was a batsman’s dream, as 375 runs were scored before a bowler took a wicket!
Buckinghamshire won the toss and elected to bowl. They soon came to regret their decision, as Devon’s opening pair quickly settled into steady accumulation. As the innings progressed the opening pair of Becky Bertrand and Nicole Richards began to increase the scoring rate to achieve a record undefeated opening stand of 261 in 45 overs.
In reply, Buckinghamshire also began well and their opening pair put on 97 before Lorna Browne was run out. Buckinghamshire, though, were always behind the required run-rate and wickets eventually began to fall at regular intervals. Buckinghamshire finished their innings on 179 – 7 with Louise Veroken-Jones top scoring with 42.
Becky Bertrand with her maiden century and Nicole Richards for scoring 82 not out and taking two wickets were jointly women of the match.
