On August 8th at North Molton Cricket Club, Gloucestershire won the toss and decided to bat. After a good steady start of 45 Gloucestershire were becalmed by the bowling of Lydia Harris (9-3-17-1) and Alice Johnson (8-0-16-1). Gloucestershire tried to accelerate but a combination of accurate bowling and sharp fielding enabled Devon to restrict Gloucestershire to only 130 for 4 off 45 overs.
Despite chasing a below par score, Devon stumbled and, when Devon were only 47 for 4 in 21 overs, it looked as though Gloucestershire might have scored enough. However, Amara Carr rode her early good fortune to play an innings of increasing authority. Amara in a partnership with Gemma Lancaster – who was playing in her first game at U17 level – put on 52 for the 5th wicket. Then Claire Varcoe joined Amara and the pair quickly knocked off the runs in an unbroken partnership of 32. Amara Carr finished on 64 not out and Claire Varcoe 18 not out.
Devon 131-5 (A Carr 64*, C Varcoe 18*; E Waldron 2-33) beat Gloucestershire 130-4 (E Waldron 33, S Williams 23, C Allen 23) by 5 wickets
