On August 7th, Somerset and Devon played their top of the table match at King’s School, Bruton, as the winner of the game would win the South & West League

Somerset won the toss and batted. Sophie Luff and Emily Robinson gave Somerset a good start with an opening stand of 89 before Emily Robinson was out for 38. Devon’s bowlers, though, stuck to their task and kept Somerset to 145 – 8 in 45 overs. Sophie Luff was Somerset’s top scorer with a solid and stylish 69.

In reply, Devon’s openers made a sound start. However, a combination of accurate bowling and sharp fielding enabled Somerset to put Devon under pressure, and led to a collapse from 63 for none to 100 all out. Sophia Westbury with 4 for 26 and Emily Knight with 2 for 6 were Somerset’s most successful bowlers. Becky Bertrand with 44 top-scored for Devon.

Sophie Luff was woman of the match for scoring 69 and then putting Devon under pressure by taking 1 for 17 off 9 overs.
