Devon U17 Girls v Somerset Under 17 Girls 2011

On August 11th at Torquay Cricket club Devon played their archrivals Somerset. Devon won the toss and in overcast conditions with the threat of rain decided to field.

Somerset began disastrously with Emily Ward effecting an excellent run out. After this, Somerset’s innings often promised more than it eventually achieved. A number of their players got in but did not go on. Cait O’Keefe, Alice Johnson and Lydia Harris each picked up two wickets and there were two further run outs.

In reply, Devon began steadily. As the score mounted Devon’s openers began to unfurl their shots – Amara Carr was particularly strong on the leg side and Lydia Harris hit some powerful drives. After Lydia was out for 45, Amara (61*) and Jodie Dibble (19*) saw Devon home with four overs to spare.

Devon 140-1 (A Carr 61*, L Harris 45, J Dibble 19*) beat Somerset 139 all out (K Randall 26*; C O'Keefe 2-21, A Johnson 2-27, L Harris 2-34) by 9 wickets
