LEWDOWN fast bowler Ben Williams is looking to put into practice what he has learned with Peter Lever in the Lions' game against Cornwall.
Williams, 20, has been working with the former Lancashire and England quick bowler over the past couple of years at his club.
Lever's input has clearly helped the Durham University student, who was at Kelly College in Tavistock before heading to the North East.
Williams has played 2nd XI cricket for the university this season and broke into the T20 side before the end of term.
Williams has always had a turn of pace, but Lever has taught him how to use it.
'Peter's expertise has been invaluable,' said Williams, who is two years into a three-year sports science course at Durham.
'He pointed out to me it is one thing to bowl fast and another to bowl wicket-taking deliveries.
'You are not much use to your team if you don't get anyone out - and pace alone isn't always enough.
'Peter has got me bowling on the stumps, which I was struggling with at times, and not only bowling straight but full as well.
'That's how you get players out: lbw, bowled or caught.'
Williams played age-group cricket for Devon at under-15 and under-16 level before Lever started working with him.
Lever was the club coach at Lewdown but took a step back at the end of last season and no concentrates on one-to-ones.
'You can ring him up, arrange to meet at the nets and he gives up his time willingly, not just for me but other young pace bowlers like Sam Stein,' said Williams. 'I owe him a great deal.'
