CONGRATULATIONS on the U13 Devon County girls first match in the development group. Girls, this was a very good performance. I loved it!! You should be proud. You were active in the field and batted with confidence. Well done to every single girl there!! You have obviously listened to what you have been told and put it into practice. Thank you.
Great captaincy by Emma Seward - well done!! You led by example - particularly not complaining when out by a ball glancing the top of what were adult stumps. Still, it was the same for opposition!
Just in case you think I am behaving oddly for me, being so excited and complimentary, wait for it ..... I do think we can do even better. The opposition were not as strong as we have faced in the past, despite their straight bowling and one or two dynamic players. I expect the other sided to be stronger and we must be ready for that! The umpires were far more generous on the wides and no balls than I expected - I very much doubt that will continue. I would certainly have given a lot more wides. We could have had a few more run outs if the fielders had been more switched on about which were the slower batsman.
Devon 215 for 4
Halliday 116!
Holifield 42no
Churcher 18no
Wiltshire 44 all out
Goodier 2-0 off 4
Gillies 1-16 off 4 - plus 2 run outs and a catch
Elsworth 3-5 off 3
Devon were excellent - everyone's hard work has paid off. Well done all. They outclassed Wiltshire in every aspect of the game according to the Wiltshire coach. Thanks to Mark Overton. Thanks to all the parents! A fantastic day. Great fun.
