DEVON under-13s suffered a heavy – and disappointing - defeat in their latest ECB championship game in Wiltshire.
Devon were asked to bat at the picturesque Steeple Langford CC ground.
A couple of heavy showers made batting a little difficult on a wet and sometimes low wicket.
But that was no excuse for some of the shot selection as the visitors were skittled out for just 89 in the 31st over.
Only Billy Rudolph, who grafted for 110 minutes and faced 83 balls for his 32, showed any real application. Next best was 17 from Ben Phillips. No other Devon batsman reached double figures.
Wiltshire made light work of the run-chase winning with 21 overs to spare and for the loss of just one wicket.
Manager Jim Parker said: “This was an extremely disappointing result.
“We made great strides and showed some real spirit against Berkshire the week before.
“We seem to take one step forward and two steps back but just hope the group are learning by their mistakes.
“Credit must go to Billy. We probably had the worst of the conditions but the boys know we should have done a lot, lot better.
“That game has gone now and we must pick up ourselves for our last ECB game against Gloucester and the forthcoming festival at King’s College, Taunton.”
Devon 89 (Rudolph 32), Wiltshire 90-1. Wiltshire won by nine wickets.
