DEVON Dumplings saw a promising started crumble to leave them hanging on for a draw in an all-day game against the Free Foresters at Seaton.
The start was delayed by half an hour to let the ground dry out – and when it did Dumplings soon made up for lost time by reducing the visitors to 55 for four.
The Dumplings put in some good work in the field, including a brilliant diving catch by a 12th man, a leg-side stumping by Sidmouth’s John Goodwin, a slick run out by Joel Seward and a brilliant, over-the-shoulder catch by Jack Randle.
The Foresters recovered to 138 for five with Will Sandbach (47) and Nick Turk (46) making significant contributions, after which wickets fell regularly towards an all-out total of 201.
Bradninch left-armer Phil Chappell bowled 17 successive overs for the Dumplings to take three for 27. Jack Randle held on three catches.
By tea the Dumplings were 51 without loss from 20 overs, Andrew Parr (21) and Budleigh’s Chris Horne (58) having given them a solid start.
Parr was out immediately on the resumption but Horne and Randle (40) continued to push the score along.
At 176 for four the Dumplings looked in command following a stand of 52 by Axminster’s Joel Seward (45) and Will French (14).
When Randle fell at 188 the innings faltered. The Dumplings ended up hanging on for an honourable draw at 191 for eight.
In other recent games, the Dumplings defeated Kelly College by two wickets and lost away to West Buckland School.
The game against Hampshire Wayfarers at Torquay was rained off.
The Dumplings next game is against the Denstone Wanderers at Bradninch on July 17.
