Devon County Cricket Club
  Vision

The prime objective of the Devon Lions is: “To identify and develop the next generation of Devon CCC players”.

Devon CCC, as the pinnacle of cricket in Devon, aims to set the standards both on and off the field, it seeks to ensure the continued success of the County team, and the development of future Devon sides. It is responsible for identifying and developing players beyond the ECB Elite Player Programme for 13 to 16 year olds, other than those who have already moved into a First Class Academy.

A rigorous Lions’ programme addresses the key areas of Assessment(Sept – Dec) Preparation (Jan – April) and Performance (May – Aug). The winter high performance programme is based at The Devon Cricket Centre on Sunday mornings from November to March, and is followed by a Devon Lions’ summer programme of competitive matches against First Class Counties Academies/2nd Xl’s and MCC Universities. The squad involves 12-14 players and is supported financially by the Devon Cricket Board,  David Shepherd Cricket Trust and Devon CCC.

The Devon Lions project gives players between the ages of 17 and 21 an opportunity to showcase their talent and progress into the County side and beyond, at as early an age as possible.

The Devon Lions is organised by Tim Western, the High Performance Manager, supported by senior coaches including Peter Lever and Joel Murphy, with Nick Rowe in charge of strength and conditioning.
